Newport Beach Workshop

March 9 @ 8:00 am - March 10 @ 5:30 pm PDT

After two years of working alongside the PTR for our Indian Wells summit, we have decided that it is the perfect location to host one of our WTCA Professional Pathway workshops.

This event will be our first full workshop that will go over all aspects of being a WTA tour coach.

Indian Wells is one of the world’s best tournament sites; coaches will have the opportunity to sit courtside for practice sessions and matches. 

Sarah Stone and Ann Grossman will conduct the workshop. Several top coaches will share insights with the attendees throughout the workshop.

Successful applicants must meet the following criteria.

  • Hold a current coaching certification recognized by the WTA
  • Submit a criminal background check
  • Knowledge of the WTA tour bylaws and history of the WTA
  • Must have completed the WTCA Baseline Certification Course
  • Outline a one-page overview as to why they want to be part of the program

One of the following must be applicable.

  • Former WTA/ATP ranked player or D1 NCAA college tennis 
  • Achieved an ITF junior ranking of top 150
  • Current or previous experience coaching ITF ranked junior players in a private coaching capacity 
  • Fifty work experience hours with an approved high-performance expert coach.
  • Five years of work experience with UTR 6 ranked players or above
Workshop Agenda

Day one 

  • 5.30 pm Evening welcome – workshop briefing 
  • 6.00 pm WTA tour history and overview 
  • 7.00 pm Dinner 

Day Two 

  • 9.00 am The coach-player relationship – Q and A with top player 
  • 10.00 am Scout a practice session – observing player-coach interaction.
    • Coaches to take individual notes taken about things they notice about the session. 
  • 11.00 am Break 
  • 11.30 am Review practice as a group – talk about what transpired during the session. 
  • 12.30 pm Meet with a coach of player from the session – WPP Coaches have the  
    • opportunity to ask the WTA coach about the session 
  • 1.00 pm Lunch 
  • 2.00 pm Watch a match – coaches to take notes from what the observe 
  • 3.00 pm Pre-match and post-match routines 
  • 4.00 pm Free time 
  • 6.30 pm Discuss observations from practice 
  • 7.00 pm Dinner

    • Booking Transport
