The Foundations Course

6 Lessons | 2 hours

Here’s the deal—you don’t need to be a doctor to help your player. Most wear-and-tear injuries don’t require surgery, and if you train your player right, you can prevent them from ever happening in the first place. How? Knowledge. In my 25 years of experience as an orthopaedic surgeon, I’ve developed dozens of easy-to-implement techniques any coach can use. With this course, you’ll learn everything from the nuts and bolts of the musculoskeletal system to the four tiers of the Performance Pyramid, empowering you to help your player feel and play her best.

Lesson 1 : Pain is the Body's Voice

In the opening section, Dr. Boynton makes the case that pain isn’t the problem. Pain is the body’s voice. And if we can learn to listen, we can fix what’s wrong.

Lesson 2 : The Musculoskeletal System

You don’t need a medical degree to keep your player healthy, but you do need to know the basics—the muscles, bones, fascia, etc. In this section, you’ll learn just that as well how wear-and-tear injuries develop.

Lesson 3 : The Performance Pyramid

In Part III, Dr. Boynton walks you through the Performance Pyramid, her four-tier roadmap to injury recovery, starting with the 3 R’s: Relax, Rebalance, and Reactivate.

Lesson 4 : A case Study in Anterior Knee Pain

Building on everything learned in the first four sections, Dr. Boynton examines the case of a young tennis player with anterior knee pain and the treatments needed to get her back in the game.
