SBW Tennis Academy specializes in tennis for all ages and abilities. From first timers to tournament training, our team provides the resources to help each player reach their individual goal. 

Our philosophy is that great players are made from sound fundamentals. At SBW we believe that our attention to detail approach to stroke development and fundamentals, combined with the passion and experience of our team makes SBW a one of a kind place to learn and train. 

With our four convenient locations throughout Brentwood and Pacific Palisades, we are dedicated to serving the needs of aspiring tennis players by offering private lessons, clinics, camps, team tennis and corporate retreat packages.

Private Lessons

are an essential part of the development of any tennis player. Whether you are just starting out, training for your high school or middle school team, an upcoming league match or a competitive tournament schedule at SBWTA we feel it is important for a developing tennis player to find a balance between private lessons, group clinics, and matches. We are happy to help you put together the perfect weekly schedule to meet your individual needs.

The SBW coaching team has an extensive background in both playing and coaching at the highest level. We look to pair the right coach with the right student, ensuring the SBW tennis experience is truly second to none.

Shawna Wilson

has been involved and had a love for tennis her entire life. After growing up in Southern California where she was consistently a top-ranked junior she went on to a very successful college career where she was one of the top-ranked doubles players in the country, and an all American. After travelling and competing all over Europe Shawna realized her true passion for the sport was through teaching others. 

For the past 14yrs SBW has coached many up and coming juniors that have gone on to receive college scholarships.  She has also worked with top high school players, beginning juniors, as well as adults of all levels. Shawna loves to teach anyone at any level that shares her love and desire to learn the sport.  Her unmatched energy and love for the game comes through with every lesson that she teaches.

ALEX KANTARELIS

came to Southern California from Stamford, Connecticut, where he spent summers as Head Pro at the Italian Center of Stamford Country Club, and spent his winters running the 10 and under program and working with nationally ranked players at Solaris Racquet Club, a high performance academy in Stamford. Originally from Worcester, Massachusetts, he was the head coach of Worcester Academy’s varsity tennis team, and worked as an assistant pro at Westboro Tennis and Swim Club in Westboro, MA. He also spent 2 years as Worcester Academy’s middle school coach, and one year as coach of the JV team at St. Marks School in Southborough, MA. In Stamford, he worked with adult USTA teams from 2.5 – 5.0. Alex played college tennis at Sacred Heart University (Fairfield, CT) where he was team captain and named all-conference 3 consecutive years. There he consistently finished in the top 3 of the NEC conference (Division 1). In addition, he has played guitar in a punk-rock band and toured the country and Europe. He released 3 CDs along the way.

Grant Friedman

has been teaching tennis in some capacity for 10 years. He has been teaching full time with the SBW Tennis Academy for 5 years. He currently serves as the Paul Revere Middle School Tennis Coach, where he has won multiple Delphic League championships. While in High School at Windward in Los Angeles, he spent 2 summers coaching at the Brady Tennis Camps in Santa Barbara, and 2 summers on his own, coaching tennis on the Jersey Shore at the St. Francis Aquatic Center. Then while at Pitzer College, Grant played college tennis for Pomona-Pitzer, one of the nations best Division 3 programs. There he earned All Academic Honors and was an ITA Scholar Athlete. While earning his bachelors, Grant spent summers administering the Nike Tennis Camps up in Santa Cruz.  Grant was born and raised in Los Angeles and learned the game at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. He competed heavily on the USTA junior circuit and was highly ranked from ages 10-18. He brings an intimate understanding of the game and an unmatched passion for the sport. He is excited to continue bringing his expertise and energy to the SBW Tennis Academy

Lauren Marker

In college, Lauren captained the University of Arizona tennis team and played the #1 singles and doubles position, consistently ranking among the top 20 in the NCAA in singles and doubles. She finished her career at Arizona as the second winningest player of all time where she was also only the second person to surpass over 100 collegiate singles wins. Lauren played professionally on the WTA tour post college for a year before accepting a job at William Morris Endeavor in the Music Department during the week and coaching for SBW Tennis Academy on the weekend.
